Cut it all off

"But if you would become an interior [wo]man, you must give God an overflowing measure.  Whatever outward thing hinders your inward recollection must be given up.  Study yourself. Carefully scrutinize your conduct, affections, intentions, words, works, clothing, adornments, friends, property, honors, lodging, pleasure, manners.  Look into your whole life.  Find out every single thing that hinders God's dwelling within you; relentlessly cut it all off."

Fr. John Tauler, OP

My mind has been aflutter with starting a new job--with lots of questions.  It is a challenge, and will be a humbling journey, as the gap between book learning and real-life learning strikes me as a Great Divide.  And yet, I am grateful for a few encounters already that have been breaths of peace and confirmation in this path.  Here's to continuing to peel back the unnecessary.
